David North, of Rondout, one of the four remaining survivors of the Missouri, who have arrived here, (Rome, NY) tells a very harrowing story.  While floating about at sea in an open boat he and his companions had to lock their legs under the seats and clasp arms to keep from being washed overboard by heavy seas; they were without food for many days; the boiler man, MARK ANTHONY, went crazy the first day; WILLIAM STERR, the barber, afterwards died and SHEA, the porter, jumped overboard.  From that time the boat was surrounded by a shoal of sharks.  THOMAS EGAN, on the morning of the fourth day, while describing a splendid entertainment, which he once attended, suddenly fell and died.  His body was thrown overboard and immediately grabbed by the sharks.  By almost a miracle the remaining four reached land.  A bottle of whisky, which was found floating, saved North's life.  (RCDec20/1872)
