This Catholic Mission was formed in the
vicinity of the top of Bell Hill Road and was one of the
earliest Catholic Churches in the state.
The church was built in 1838 and was located on a side
road off Bell Hill Road. The first
mass was said by Rev. William Quarter of Chicago before the
church was completely finished. The
church continued until St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church
was built at Deerfield Corners in 1879.
Part of the foundation of the old church
still remains at this location but the graves have been
removed. The only remains of the cemetery
associated with this church was the bottom half of a
broken tombstone. It is assumed the
graves and tombstones were removed to St. Peter’s
Cemetery on Coventry Road.
