PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT
This indenture made this sixth day of September
in the year of our Lord one thousand seventeen and ninty six between John
Reynolds of the County of Kent State of Rhode Island, gentleman of the
first part and John B. Northup and Remington Northup of the County of Herkimer,
State of New York farmers of the second part. Witnesseth that the said
party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred
dollars of lawful money of the State of New York to him in hand...land
in the County of Herkimer ... it being in a large tract commonly known
by the name of Cosby's Manor lying on the north side of the Mohawk River
and is part of lot number ten in said manor and is ... lot of land conveyed
from Thomas Scharman, Jun. to the above John Reynolds by deed bearing the
date even with this indenture....Best remembered that on the sixth day
of September 1796 personally apeared before me. Hugh White, one of the
judges of the court of common
pleas....Recorded this 15th day of March
1797.

SUMMARY OF DEED
This indenture made the 26th day of June
in the year of our Lord 1815 between Benjamin Northup & Hannah his
wife and with Henry K. Greene and his wife of Deerfield, Oneida County
& State of New York of the first part and Stephen Northup of the town
& county & state aforesaid of the second part. Witnesseth that
the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum
of five dollars current money of the United States ... in hand paid by
the said party of the second part.... All that certain piece, parcel or
lot of land situate in Deerfield aforesaid being part of grant lot of number
seven in Cosby Manor... or begining where the line between lot number six
and seven interdict the northerly line of road called Northup Road....
In witness whereof the parties to these presents have here unto ... set
their hand and seals... Henry K. Greene Benjamin Northup
Signed and sealed and delivered in presence
of Ambrase Kaplan ...on the 26th day of February 1834...
Recorded this 22nd day of March 1834....
[Henry Knowles Greene, son of Capt. Amos
Greene, Jr. of Charlestown, RI, married Joanna Northup, daughter of John
B. Northup, brother of Stephen Northup. The couple went to New Haven, NY
before 1844 when Joanna died. Later Henry resided in Mexico where his many
land deals went bad and he had real estate repossessed. He died in 1871
living at the home of his daughter, Olive Van Cleef at Tyre, NY.]

This indenture made the eighth day of February
in the year of our Lord one thousand eighteen hundred and fourteen between
George W. Murray of the city and state of New York of the first part and
Benjamin Northup, Stephen Northup and Henry K. Greene, town of Deerfield,
County of Oneida & said state of the second part. Witnesseth that the
party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of eleven hundred
and eighty five lawful money of the state aforesaid to him in hand....All
that part of lot number seven Cosby Manor... on the southerly side by a
road crossing this said lot commonly called the Northup road....said lot
containing seventy nine acres be the same more or less... being in the
Town of Deerfield, County of Oneida and state aforesaid....

State of New York On the third day of May
1814 before me personally came Henry Greene known to me who on oath before
me made did say that he saw George W. Murray execute this deed and that
he knew him as the person therein described and that he subscribed his
name....Allow it to be recorded.... Recorded the 18th Jan 1815....
[Henry Knowles Greene is the husband of Stephen
Northup's niece, Joanna who is the daughter of John B.
Northup of Deerfield.]

This indenture made this fourteenth day of
June in the year of our Lord one thousand eighteen hundred and nineteen
between William Northup of the town of Deerfield, County of Oneida and
State of New York of the first part and Gideon Northup of the town aforesaid
of the second part. Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for
and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars current money
of the State of New York to him in hand.... All that certain piece or parcel
of ground situate lying and being in the town of Deerfield, county aforesaid
and being part of lot no. six in Cosby's Manor bounded as follows to wit:
Begining at the north side of the road commonly called the Northup Road
on the East line.... Put hands and seals the day and year first above written.
William Northup
Signed, sealed and delivered in the presence
of Remington Northup, John Tanner, County of Oneida. I James Cochran, commissioner,
to take the proof of deeds... do certify that on the second day of October
in the year of our Lord one thousand eighteen hundred and twenty-one before
me came John Tanner...who sworn before me...that he knew him and he is
such a person - he the said John Tanner... on oath did say that he saw
William Northup execute the written deed...but some words obliterated in
the ninth line do allow it to be recorded. James Cochran.
Recorded the 5th day of January 1825....
[Remington Northup and Gideon Northup, brothers,
were sons of William Northup who sold them land in lot no. 6 at Deerfield.
They were born in North Kingston, RI: Remington b. 1 Feb. 1764; m. Amy
Knowles; d. 1829 and Gideon b. 4 Jan. 1766; m. Sally _______]
[William Northup was born 8 Dec. 1732 at
Kingston, Washington co., RI and died at Deerfield 21 May 1827. He
married Ann Slocum born 25 May 1752 prob. at Jamestown RI where the couple
married 16 Aug. 1761. She died at Deerfield 6 December 1831.
They are both buried at the First Baptist Church of Deerfield under
a large monument. William was a
drummer in the Revolutionary War in RI.]
