Michael was b 15 Feb 1815 in Co Limerick, Ire to John
& Elizabeth Moran
Mahedy of Co Longford where Michael as raised. The family came in 1830, according to tradition with their Sheridan cousins - parents of Gen Phil. The family settled in Sherrington, Que. In the early 1840s, Mike and bro Pat worked as stone masons/cutters on the Black River Canal and boarded in the home of Adin & Mary Ann LeClear Butler. Michael m 7 Mar 1843 at St Peter's, Rome, to Esther Gillett, b 1821 to Ebenezer & Elizabeth Keech Gillett of Western. Ebenezer served in the War of 1812 at Sacketts Harbor, as did three of Elizabeth's brothers. Elizabeth's father James Keech served in the Revolution with two of his brothers and also marched with his sons to Sackett's Harbor in the War of 1812. Mike's brother Pat married @ 1843 to Jane LeClare, sister of Mary Ann. By 1845 both families returned to Canada. |
