Augusta

The town of Augusta began to be settled in the year 1793 by a man by the name
of Gunn.  Soon Benjamin Warren, David Morton and John Alden also began
clearing lots.  In August of the same year Iscabod Stafford, Joseph and
Adam Forbes and their familes settled on the "east hill."  In 1794 several
more families arrived including Isaac and Benjamin Allen, Amos Parker,
James Casety, Francis O'Toole, Ozias Hart, Abel Prior, Thomas Spafford,
Ezra Saxton and Abiel Linsley.  The town was erected in 1798 and held it's
first meeting in April 1798 at the home of Timothy Pond, Jr.
