The town of Kirkland was settled in March
of 1787 with the emigration
of eight families. The families included
Moses Foote and his three sons
Bronson, Luther and Ira, along with his son
in law Barnabus Pond.
The town was organized by an Act of Legislature
on April 13, 1827.
It received it's name from the Rev. Samuel
Kirkland, the noted missionary.
