Remsen

The town of Remsen was formed at the same time as Oneida County, March 15, 1798.  It was set off from the town of Norway, Herkimer County and is named after Henry Remsen, one of the original patentees. Some of the early settlers of this town include Barnabas Mitchell, Shubel Cross, John Bonner,  Amos Bull, Joseph Brownell, James Smith, Jacob Dayton, Nathaniel Rockwood, Soloman Gillett, Perez Farr, Ebenezer Dodd, William Platt, Phillip Scott, and Edmund Tefft.
