The town of Sangerfield was formed from the
town of Paris on
March 5, 1795. It was first settled
by Zerah Phelps from Greenwoods,
Massachutsetts in the fall of 1791. Later
came Benjamin White,
Phineas Owen, Nathan Gurney, Sylvanus Dyer,
Asahel Bellows,
Nathaniel Ford, Henry Knowlton, and Jonathan
Stratton.
The first town meeting took place on April
7, 1795
