The town of Westmoreland lies south of the
center of Oneida County
and was set off from the town of Whitestown
on April 10, 1792.
James Dean was the first settler in the year
1784. He was followed
by his brother Jonathan, and Silas Phelps
and his family. In Janaury 1787,
Ephraim Blackmer and Nehemiah Jones removed
to the town
from Berkshire County, Massachusetts.
Soon after arrived
Joseph Jones, Joseph Blackmer Jr., Samuel
Laird and Pelatiah Rawson.
